The Western Boone Junior High Cross Country team traveled to Danville last night for the Danville David Landes Invitational, held in honor of David Landes. It was another highly competitive meet with a strong field of teams, but on a beautiful day and a favorite course featuring rolling hills, the Stars rose to the challenge. The team once again earned several new personal records as the team begins looking ahead to our conference on Tuesday. The boys' team earned 2nd place overall, led by a dominant performance from Ari Smith, who claimed 1st place overall with a new PR of 10:52, finishing 33 seconds ahead of the next runner. Also setting PRs were Griffin Johanson (12:07), Hayden Trenary (12:24), Liam Sartin (12:25), and Gabriel Threlkeld (12:28), who rounded out the scoring five. Additional PRs came from Jacob Nance (15:16) and Simon Yarger (17:45). On the girls’ side, Bristol McCord led the way with a 13:54 finish. Hayley Trojnar continued her streak of PRs, running 14:14, while Skylar Yarger hit her season goal with a new PR of 15:00 and shows no signs of stopping there. Also scoring for the Stars were Alisha Manning (16:01) and Lydia Boggs, who ran just shy of a new PR at 16:44. It was another outstanding day for the Stars, and the team’s hard work is clearly paying off as they head into the final stretch of the season.
