Cross Country team gets season underway at Lafayette

The Western Boone Cross Country team travelled to Lafayette Saturday for their first race of the season. The Stars faced some tough competition with 15 boys teams and 14 girls teams, a total of 216 boys and 162 girls, and a rugged hilly course. The boys ran first and Aiden Lester led the Stars, finishing with an impressive time of 18:33.85 in 34th place, followed closely by Brennan Bivens in his first ever race in 46th place (18:55.03). Alex Crockett was next to cross the finish line with a time of 19:25.76, followed by Brayden Schick with a new lifetime best time of 20:38.69, Owen Young (20:49.7), Rex Stanley (21:05.9), Eli Bishop (21:20.5), Kole Nelson (23:10.2), Caleb Crockett (24:18.0), Andres Morales (24:31.9), and Izaak Harsin (34:06.5). The boys finished in 8th place as a team. In the girls race Charlotte Stucky finished first for the girls with a time of 21:49.12 in 19th place, followed by Joan Gearheart (23:44.10), Abigayle Humphrey (23:53.20), Kate HIger (24:20.57), Janelle Gearheart (25:13.72), Harmony Gilbrech with a life time best time (25:47.67), Britney Richwine (29:04.27), Adalyn Sartin (29:11.59), and Katrina Brewer (29:56.39). The girls finished in 8th place as a team. The Stars will race again next Saturday at the Jeremy Wright Small School Invite in Shelbyville.
