Western Boone sophomore Ally Lewis was selected as one of nine juniors to be in the state to join the IHSAA's Student Advisory Committee. The SAC began in the 2001-02 school year and they represent the entire membership. The structure of the group mirrors the IHSAA Board of Directors in terms of classification and districts. The SAC meets four times a year, twice each semester, and are responsible for hosting meetings with student peers at the Fall Principal's Meetings, assisting with awards ceremonies at the IHSAA state championship events, planning and administering the annual Student Leadership Conference and engaging in and support the activities of Special Olympics Indiana including the Unified Track and Unified Flag Football State Tournaments. They are also responsible for the development of an IHSAA Captain's Handbook and assisting in the creation of multiple public service announcements addressing good sporting behavior which will be utilized during next year's state championship events. Every year the nine selected juniors join the nine returning seniors to create the 18-athlete committee. Committee members are nominated by their principals or athletic directors. From the nominations, 21 are selected for interviews with members of the IHSAA Executive Committee and nine are ultimately chosen. Lewis, a three-sport athlete at Western Boone that plays golf, basketball and softball, is the first Western Boone athlete to be on the committee and the third ever from Boone County. She joins Lebanon's Logan Mann, who was on the inaugural committee in 02-03 and Alison Curtis who served from 2009-11. Will Willems is the Sports Editor of the Lebanon Reporter.
