Western Boone Jr. - Sr. High School

The Jr. High Lady Softball Team split with North Montgomery on Wednesday evening in two close contests. In the first game, the Stars battled but came up short losing to the Chargers 6-7. The team came out of the dugout sluggish giving up all 7 runs on the evening in the top of the first inning. The slow start proved too difficult to overcome. The Stars scored two runs in the first and then 4 runs in the second inning, but was unable to push runners around in the bottom of the third inning leaving the tying and go ahead run stranded on second and third. Kensley Blankenship was in the circle once again for the Stars. The pitcher completed three full innings facing 21 batters giving up five hits with six walks, three strikeouts, and five earned runs. Offensively the Stars were aggressive on the base paths with 10 stolen bases, and were lead at the plate by Mady Monks who went 2 for 2 with a single and an in the park homerun in the bottom of the second driving in two runs. Other hits in the game came from Harper Nance, Riley Gunn, Kenzie Mikesell, and Jayden Paris. The loss evens up this groups record now at 3-3. The second game proved to be another close contest with the Chargers, but the Stars were able to come out on the right side with an 8-7 victory. In this game the Stars were disciplined at the plate earning 10 walks as a group in two innings. Aubree Franklin lead the team with a crucial hit and RBI in the bottom of the second that proved to be the difference in the game. Cora Reagan started in the circle pitching the first inning. The starting pitcher faced 9 batters, giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts. Sully Smith entered the game in the second inning to face seven batters, giving up two hits, one earned run, with a strikeout on the evening. The Jr. High Lady Stars will be back on their home field next Tuesday, 5/6, at 5:30pm with another conference game vs. the Southmont Mounties.
