Western Boone split a pair of games with conference rival Danville last night. Due to a rainout on Tuesday, the schools decided to play both games of the series on Wednesday evening. Danville took game one by a score of 5-2. Quinn Westerfeld pitched the entire game for the Stars and did his job allowing just one earned run. Two walks and a costly error in the third inning allowed Danville to gain the momentum and the lead. The Stars offense was stifled in game one by Danville's Akron commit. Western Boone recorded five hits in the contest by Hawkins, Westerfeld, Sawyer, Reid and Howe. The Stars responded well and came out on top in game two by a score of 4-2. Easton Nance pitched the complete game and allowed just 2 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Nance allowed 0 walks for his second start in a row. The Defense was magnificent in game two committing zero errors. The outfiled trio of Reid, Westerfeld, and Scagnoli worked hard and executed some key routes in order to track down multiple opportunities in the outfield. The infield of Kopriva, Howe, Hawkins, and Sawyer each saw opportunities to contribute to the win and took advantage by making the plays. Jack Mallory started behind the plate and the freshman did an excellent job of completing the battery. Offensively, Westerfeld lead with 2 hits, while every other starter contributed one hit of their own. The split moves the Stars overall record to 8-7 and their conference record to 4-3. Western Boone will play at Cascade Friday evening before the boys have Saturday off to get ready for Prom. Crawfordsville will be the next conference opponent in next week's mid-week series. JV Baseball The Western Boone JV Stars couldn’t keep pace with the Danville JV Warriors, falling 16–3 on Wednesday. Each team had 9 hits, but once again errors plagued the team, as they committed 11. Danville jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first inning on two RBI hits They broke the game open in the third with six more runs on just three hits, along with a run scored on a passed ball and an error. The Warriors put the game out of reach in the fifth, plating seven runs on a single hit, capitalizing on multiple errors, a walk, and an RBI single. Western Boone’s Aiden Lester started on the mound, giving up six hits and eight runs (only two earned) over three innings. 3 HBP, and he struck out on1 ear and walked none. Cummins pitched one inning giving up 7 runs (1 earned) Western Boone tallied nine hits, with Luke Cummins leading the way, going a perfect 3-for-3. Liam Whiteley and Jackson Long each added an RBI.
