The Western Boone Stars made the most of a special home evening on Thursday, earning a convincing Monon Athletic Conference dual meet victory over the North Putnam Cougars while celebrating Youth Recognition Night. Before the opening whistle, the focus was on the future of the program. Elementary through junior high wrestlers were introduced to the crowd, lining the mat as they were recognized for their involvement in Western Boone’s youth wrestling program. The moment set a strong tone for the night, connecting the current varsity lineup with the next generation of Stars. Once competition began, Western Boone took control early and never let up. The Stars picked up key pins throughout the lineup, including quick falls from Klayton Mikesell at 113, Isaiah Garland at 138, and Jacob Smith at 190. Tyson Riner, Colton Mitchell, and Lucas Garland also contributed to the momentum as Western Boone steadily built its lead. North Putnam battled in the middle weights, highlighted by a pin from William Smith at 157, but Western Boone’s depth proved decisive. The Stars capitalized on multiple forfeits in the upper weights and closed the night with a dominant team performance, securing a 66–18 win over their MAC rival. Western Boone will be back in action on Saturday, January 10, 2026, when the Stars travel to Zionsville for the Fendley Hall of Fame tournament, with wrestling set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
